SLN STEAM Team

The SLN STEAM Team is a summer internship in field and laboratory science at The New York Botanical Garden 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10458. Research at this sites touches on all aspects of earth and environmental sciences, including climate, geology, earth systems, and ecology.  We study all of the earth’s major systems and processes, from the molten core, through the continents and oceans, to the top of the atmosphere. High School students participating in this program will work in field research teams mentored by scientists and undergraduate science majors.  We conduct research on the physical environment and ecology.  Teams consist of high school students, college students, science teachers and scientists. Students collect all of their own samples and do most of their own lab work. The goal is to produce original research that can be presented at professional meetings and perhaps eventually published.

Join the SLN STEAM Team This Summer!

Are you interested in science, nature, and hands-on discovery? The New York Botanical Garden is looking for high school students to join our STEAM Team summer internship.

What You’ll Do

Forget sitting behind a desk. In this program, you’ll become a real scientist. You will explore how the Earth works—from the hot, molten core deep underground to the very top of our atmosphere. You’ll study things like:

  • Climate & Ecology: How plants, animals, and the environment interact.

  • Earth Systems: How the oceans, land, and weather all connect.

  • Field & Lab Work: You’ll head out into nature to collect your own samples and then head into the lab to analyze what you found.

The Team

You won’t be doing this alone! You’ll work in a research team with high schoolers, college students, and professional scientists. Your goal is to create original research that is good enough to be presented at big science meetings or even published in a science journal.
